Decorative kaomoji: sparks, frames and big smileys
Decorative kaomoji are not faces but ornaments made of symbols: sparks ✧・゚, stars, divider lines and frames. They set off headings in posts, nicknames and profile descriptions in Telegram and VK. Below are three tables of ready-made strings: tap a string and it is copied. Big kaomoji with arms and gestures are collected separately.

A beautifully designed post rests on a couple of repeating symbols: a spark at the start of a line, a line between blocks, a frame around a title. All of them are built from ordinary characters, so they work in any messenger. Below are ready-made strings and a word on what to do if the frame falls apart on someone's phone.

A big kaomoji is one that has arms and a "tail" of symbols: it takes up almost the whole line and works as a caption under a post. Such a string is placed on its own line, not in the middle of a sentence.
Where such symbols work and what to do about squares
Telegram, VK, nicknames and profile descriptions
The strings from the tables are pasted as ordinary text: into Telegram and VK posts, photo captions, profile descriptions. A nickname and status hold fewer characters than a post, so choose one short element there, for example ・゚✧ or ☆彡.
Why a frame breaks on someone else's phone
Each symbol is drawn by the device's font. Lines ━ and ─, diamonds ◆◇ and kana are present almost everywhere, while rare symbols like ⋆ or ˚ are narrower in some fonts and wider in others, which makes the frame shift. It is a good idea to check the decoration on a phone from another manufacturer before publishing.
- Put no more than three or four kinds of symbols in one line: the fewer different characters, the less chance that someone's font replaces one of them with a square.
- For frames, choose the pairs ╭ ╮ ╰ ╯ and lines made of a single symbol: they line up in most fonts.
- If a line shifts, shorten the repeat: long rows wrap on a narrow screen.
The name and the kanji: 飾る
飾 — значение: to decorate, decoration — онъёми: ショク — кунъёми: かざ.る、かざ.り — 13 штрих(ов). 飾 — "to decorate, to adorn": in Japanese it refers to decorating a Christmas tree, furnishing a room, and decorating a line with symbols.
Readings of 飾: ショク and かざ-る
The kun reading かざ-る (kazaru) is the verb "to decorate"; from it comes the noun 飾り (kazari) "decoration". The on reading ショク (shoku) appears in literary words, for example in 装飾 (sōshoku) "furnishings, decor". The decorative symbols from the tables above are just such "kazari" for text.
| Japanese | Reading | Translation |
|---|---|---|
| 飾る | kazaru · kazaru | To decorate |
| 飾り | kazari · kazari | Decoration |
| 装飾 | sōshoku · sōshoku | Decor, furnishings |
| 顔文字 | kaomoji · kaomoji | Smiley made of symbols |
| 星 | hoshi · hoshi | Star |
What the symbols in sparks and frames are
The half-width symbol ゚ and the dot ・ come from katakana: ゚ turns ハ into パ in a word, and in decorations it represents a sparkle. The symbol 彡 in ☆彡 is a kanji that usually means "pattern, strokes": three stroke-tails give a "shooting star".
Trace 飾 along the guides — the kanji for "to decorate".
FAQ
- What are decorative kaomoji?
- They are ornaments made of symbols: sparks, stars, lines, frames and big smileys. Such strings are pasted into posts, nicknames and profile descriptions to separate blocks and add mood. They are typed as ordinary text, without images.
- How do I copy decorative kaomoji for text?
- Tap a string in the table and it goes to the clipboard, then paste it into a post or profile. You can also select the string manually by holding your finger on the screen and choose "Copy".
- Where can I get big decorative kaomoji?
- Big smileys are built from a face and arms: \\٩( 'ω' )و // or (∩`-´)⊃━☆゚.*・。゚. Take ready-made strings from the third table and place them on a separate line under a post, otherwise they wrap to a second row.
- Why do some decorative symbols show up as squares?
- Each symbol is drawn by the device's font, and older phones have a poorer set of fonts. Ordinary lines ━, kana and ASCII are visible almost everywhere, while rare symbols like ✦ or ⋆ may drop out and become an empty square.
- Can such symbols be used in a nickname?
- As a rule, yes, but nickname length is limited, and some platforms filter unusual characters. Choose one short element like ・゚✧ or ☆彡 and check how the nickname looks in the chat list, not just in the profile.
